1046,94 km

2024 · Buenos Aires

At the end of 2022 I left Russia for Buenos Aires, on the far side of the planet. I run to think and to steady my nerves, not to set records. In February 2024 I signed up for my first marathon, held here in September, and for the seven months between I trained by running the city and photographing it as I went.

You cannot run with a real camera, so my companion was an Olympus O-Product — a small point-and-shoot built in 1988, the same year as me. I ran exactly 1046,94 kilometres. This is not an album; it is an instrument for measuring time and motion — a single day from dawn to night, a whole season from the February heat to the September marathon.

I kept the grain, the light-leaks and the smear of panning: the residue of a body moving through a city that is slowly becoming home.
